Information about plaque:
The Hampton house was originally built as a small frame residence for an early settler,  Noah Serre,  around 1735.   A two-story ballroom,  large bedrooms and sitting rooms were added on by Serre's son-in-law,  Daniel Horry,  before the Revolution.   The six-column porch was added before George Washington visited the family in 1791.   Today,  visitors can see how the house was reconstructed by the careful rebuilding of the Hampton,  revealing uncovered parts of the house.
