Stockton Place Row Houses,  Cape May,  NJ.   These Gothic Revival structures are typical examples of the Cape May cottage,  distinguished by its wealth of wood ornamentation.   The enormous wood acroterion,  the carved vergeboards and spandrel arches.

Stockton Place Row Houses,  Cape May,  NJ.   In 1871,  $50,000 built this series of rental cottages located opposite and named in honor of the great Stockton Hotel.

Information & history on rear of plaque:
Steiner Cottage,  Cape May,  NJ.   Built between 1848 - 1851,  this cottage is among Cape May's earliest summer homes.   This style marked the beginning of the "summer resort cottage" that became popular in Ocean Grove and also later at Sea Grove (Cape May Point).   It was reported that the cottage was built by a summer visitor,  a Southerner,  for one of his two daughters.

Cream Stockton Row,  Cape May,  NJ.   This Gothic Revival Cottage was one of a series of rental cottages built in 1871 across the street from the Stockton Hotel.   The houses were built as the demand increased rapidly from the abundance of upper class vacationers who began flocking to the Cape May area in the mid - 1800's.
